Healing the Healer: The Role of Vipassana Meditation

In this talk, which is intended for health care providers, Dr. Fleischman will discuss meditation as the consciously cultivated form of the natural process of homeostatic self-regulation. He will share personal and professional observations about psychological changes that take place with meditation, how meditation can help healthcare providers withstand the rigors of personal and professional life, why he chose Vipassana meditation, and what he has learned from decades of personal practice.

Paul R. Fleischman practiced psychiatry for more than 30 years. He is also a Vipassana teacher under the guidance of S.N. Goenka. Dr. Fleischman has been asked by S.N. Goenka to explain Vipassana to professionals and others in the West.

Paul R. Fleischman, M.D. is a Vipassana meditation teacher in the tradition of S.N Goenka. He is the author of several books including Wonder, Cultivating Inner Peace, Karma and Chaos and An Ancient Path. Dr. Fleischman practiced psychiatry for more than 30 years and has lectured widely in the Americas, Asia and Europe. He was honored by the American Psychiatric Association for his contributions to the study of spirituality and religion in medicine.

Read his essay “A Way of Life”, which was prepared for a lecture at the Harvard Medical School, Boston, 2007.

Paul R. Fleischman has been invited by various organisations to give lectures to professionals but also to the general public. These talks and lectures are an opportunity for those who are interested to get in contact with Vipassana Meditation.
